Foundations are nonprofit, charitable, tax-exempt organizations whose primary purpose is to support a wide variety of charitable causes. They are created by gifts of cash, stock, life insurance, property or other resources from individuals, families, and corporations who wish to dedicate some of their private resources toward a specific need or cause.
